BIOGRAPHY
Nalika, a young, attractive, London based British singer/songwriter takes you on a musical journey as she writes and sings about her everyday experiences. Her effortless smooth tone, her heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies combined with her warm stage presence that oozes with confidence grabs your attention and makes her stand out from the sea of singer/songwriters currently on the circuit.
Nalika, meaning all woman, aptly describes this exotic feminine beauty, who is a Londoner, but has roots from Sri-Lanka. Raised in the UK in a musical background of Eastern and Western influences, Nalika soon developed a taste for her passion for music from an early age. She attributes her songwriting skills to the knowledge she developed from years of studying piano, violin, & singing whilst at school. This hard work paid off with Nalika writing her own material whilst working with producers Wayne Brown, Everton McCalla and Diliup Gabadamudalige after finishing university. She has since gone on to record more songs and intends to release some of them in the near future. They are currently available to buy on iTunes, cdbaby and Best Buy.
Being a fan and supporter of live music, Nalika makes every effort to perform live whenever possible. ‘I love the buzz of performing live whether it be at open mics, musicals, concerts, cultural shows, weddings, festivals or even at 50th birthday parties! You’re on such a high when your audience loves what you are doing and you leave feeling that you are doing something right.’
To date, Nalika’s songs have had airplay on East London radio station, Sound Radio and internet radio station www.skyewaveradio.com (Richard Allen’s Magazine show), they have featured on Gotham Records’ Bandit 2006 sampler (a compilation CD of music by unsigned artists) and her music video for ‘Still on Your Mind’ has been aired on Channel U – Sky channel 360 (music channel featuring music by unsigned artists). Nalika was a semi-finalist in the vocal category of the 2005 UK Unsigned competition and more recently in July 2006 was selected as one of five singers performing in the Colours of Love Showcase at London’s Turnmills Top Floor music venue.
Nalika draws her inspiration for both writing and singing from successful female singers such as Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Sade, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones. If you have seen Nalika live you will know that she likes to include covers by these artists in her set as well as her own songs.
SYNOPSIS OF SONGS:
'Wait for Me', a ballad, recounts the sadness of a long distance relationship using slow soulful beats and arabic percussive tones whilst 'Still on your Mind', a mid tempo pop/r'n'b song, tells the story of a lover who still holds a torch for an ex-girlfriend. 'Up to You' is an uptempo track with an 80s feel to it which contrasts with 'Love Song', a love letter from an unfaithful lover asking for their partner's forgiveness.
